Co-created with Samuel Patrick, the series opens with Mr. Sonny James and uses sneakers and personal style as the entryway into craft, touring life, and the people who keep music moving.
Hidden Laces is a new interview-based series hosted by Lyric Jones, created with Samuel Patrick of LFOD Life, and built around close-range conversations with the people whose hands stay on the work. The brief puts DJs, drummers, producers, and other contributors at the center, framing them as the ones who set rhythm, shape sound, and keep the live show breathing without getting top billing.
Footwear is the first handshake, then the talk opens up into personal style, creative process, sports, music, and cultural influence. That structure fits the subject, because this is crew life in plain view, the details that usually get skipped when the camera only wants the front person and the final product.
Episode one features Mr. Sonny James of Serato Artist Relations, described as a writer, DJ, producer, videographer, and on-screen personality, plus a co-founder of Illvibe Collective in Philadelphia. The announcement also credits him as an official tour DJ for artists including Bahamadia, J-Live, Mr. Lif, and Hezekiah, with a global venue circuit and a note tying him to The PlayLIST Retreat and to DJ Jazzy Jeff’s circle of favorites.
The episode was filmed at Studiiyo 23 in Studio City, Los Angeles, and it highlights the limited edition New Balance x Roland Tiago Lemos 808 Lite, keeping the style lane concrete and specific instead of costume-y branding talk.
Lyric Jones frames the premise as a shift in camera placement. “At its core, HIDDEN LACES is about perspective,” she says, pointing to life on both sides of the stage and to the way drummers, DJs, and engineers shape the energy and sound while their process stays mostly off record. Samuel Patrick adds that the series has also been a space for the two co-creators to step forward on their own talents, describing the collaboration as organic and empowering.
