Nia Chennai & Ella More Deliver A Slick Breakup Groove On “Give It Up” February 10, 2025 Nia Chennai and Ella More say everything without saying too much. “Give It Up” doesn’t plead or negotiate. It moves forward. HOOST lays the foundation with a single, stretched note—either a trembling string or a synth barely holding on. A soft acoustic guitar flickers in before a rolling sub shakes the floor. Drums stagger into place, syncopated, steady enough to keep it all from falling apart. The rhythm carries the same bounce as Q-Tip’s “Breathe and Stop”, leaning into a bittersweet groove. Ella stays low and deliberate, each word landing like a slow nod. Nia hovers just above, weightless but certain. They don’t over-explain. The hook lands cold: “Gotta give it up (give it up) / Give it up (give it up) / Give it up.” Backing up her creative companion Nia exhales: “Already tried / So many times.” And once the weight has been lifted. Ella follows: “Now when I look at you / All I see is your lies.” The ladies’ words hit with cold clarity. There are the exhales of frustration, but there’s also a moment of understanding. The vibe might feel pointed, but it’s more about realizing the truth than throwing jabs. Their voices fold over each other, overlapping but never meeting. The bass still rolls, the groove still moves, the body follows. The heart catches up when it’s ready.
